The women’s peace camp in Romulus, NY was established in the summer of 1983 to oppose Cruise and Pershing missiles stored at a depot base in this rural community near Seneca Lake. Over 12,000 women participated in the camp's activities and their creative protests drew national attention at the time.
Bella Abzug (US Representative 1971-77) negotiates with local authorities to allow a march to proceed after residents tried to block its path.
During the first summer's encampment, I collected photographs and narratives from women at the encampment and edited the materials into a book that Temple University Press published in 1987.
